Amir Jangoo scored an unbeaten century as West Indies reached 235 for 4 at stumps on day one of the second Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, 5 November 2026. The visitors, who lead the two-match series 1-0, recovered from 27 for 3 to finish the day in a strong position.

Jangoo’s Maiden Test Hundred

Jangoo ended the day on 111 not out from 171 balls, his first century in Test cricket. The left-hander shared an unbroken 77-run stand with Justin Greaves, who was 35 not out when bad light ended play after 70 overs. Jangoo reached his fifty off 86 balls and went on to complete a composed hundred on a surface that had offered the bowlers plenty early on.
Debutant Kevin Wickham played a key supporting role, scoring 61 in his first Test innings. The pair added 131 runs for the fourth wicket, turning the match after Bangladesh’s fast bowlers had struck three times in the first hour.

Bangladesh’s Early Strikes

West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and chose to bat on an overcast morning. The decision looked risky at first. Taskin Ahmed removed Brandon King and Joshua Da Silva, while Hasan Mahmud dismissed Kavem Hodge for just one, leaving the visitors at 27 for 3.
Taskin finished the day with 2 for 61 and Hasan Mahmud took 2 for 58. But the early breakthroughs were undone by the Jangoo-Wickham partnership, and Bangladesh could not find a way through in the final two sessions.

Series Context

West Indies won the first Test in Dhaka by eight wickets, chasing 170 with Brandon King unbeaten on 81. Jomel Warrican took nine wickets in that match, including 5 for 53 in the first innings and 4 for 63 in the second, while Chase claimed 5 for 36. Bangladesh were bowled out for 272 and 142 in that game.
A draw or a win in Sylhet would seal the series for West Indies. Bangladesh, meanwhile, need a victory to level the series, and their bowlers will have to strike early on day two to stay in the contest.

What Comes Next

Play resumes on Friday with Jangoo and Greaves at the crease and West Indies looking to push towards 400, a total debutant Wickham said would give the side a real chance of winning the match. Bangladesh will be hoping for early wickets with the second new ball, but the pitch at Sylhet has so far rewarded patient batting once the new ball’s threat has passed.
